genius ("the personal deity or daimon of an individual from birth til death") regarding the connection between Jay (
Model is Ash Stymest, appearance is ICly identical to the character Jay (
Abilities
- Good at murder:
- Danger sense
- Combat instincts and training; is armed all the time, like one of those hilarious cut scenes where a character has to hand over all their weapons and the knives just don't end
- Low-yield superstrength, enhanced reflexes, increased pain tolerance, regeneration, etc.
- Limited magic resistance, especially against 'dark' beings (e.g., vampires, demons) and to a lesser extent non-hunters
- Knowledge of supernatural creatures including their weaknesses (requires player permission)
- Can copy individual powers from other beings for one-time use (1 hour to 1 day) by creating focus objects out of body parts (e.g., werewolf fur, vampire blood, angel feathers), obviously requires player permission
- Danger sense
- Can fly!
- Lighter and more fragile than most hunters, though considerably more sturdy than the average human
- Within a period of 2 months, any permanent marks or even injuries incurred on the harpy will affect or appear on Janus' body; this includes death
- The connection is one-way; Janus may die and leave Jay unaffected
History
Janus was born into a clan of hunters from Florida, a subspecies of beings created by a witch 500 years ago, to avenge her slain human family against vampires. They remain closely tied to the 'light' witches of their origin.
All hunters by birth swear by a creed to avenge the deaths of humans by supernaturals, with some exceptions (e.g., essentially with definitive proof of "if the humans started it"). Their society is susceptible to bureaucracy and corruption, with leadership using the troops for their own gain, or to bully beings. War breaks out approximately once a century as well, thanks to supernaturals growing fed up with the Morality Police. The last one to affect the Floridan clan was against an alliance of water-based demons and 'dark' witches, ending late last year; the clan is still in tatters, having sustained many losses, including some very young warriors. In general, the culture is quite ascetic and indifferent to the performative roles that human societies take on, though most individuals end up incorporating interests and such for their cover identities, personal interests, and ways of connecting with each other outside of straight-up murder.
At age 11, Janus began to grow into characteristics identifying their daimon, along with the other clan children of their age. The twenty or so other kids wound up with a variety of creatures, from minotaurs to hydras; Janus ended up with a harpy. This was humiliating, as the bias reflected in supernatural society is present among hunters as well. As a consequence, Janus became very close to their parents but somewhat socially stunted, largely friendless, and failing to learn some of the skills necessary to pass them off as human when working undercover. On the other hand, they have also become one of the more accomplished killers of their age. At 16-years-old, Janus has been credited with 12 kills, most of them demons and vampires.
Anything Else
They're here in response to Sylwia, under strict orders to harm no one else unless they physically or psychically injure or kill a human.
- Internally, their clan regards them as a bit expendable, and a litmus test for if anything actually interesting is happening at Mythian Academy or if it's just hearsay (sorry Bob the clan doesn't trust you).
- SUSPICIOUS AND PARANOId and socially awkward
- Likes 'light' creatures (e.g., angels, unicorns)
- And secretly makeup and fashion and movies. Humans have that going for them.
- Totally obsessed with the cause.
- Does not have a 'soul' themself; they share in Jay's soul. Myths and information vary as to the ways that that affects hunters psychologically. It is perhaps an explanation for the seeming lack of fear with which most face their mortality.
